Fiona McCheyne, BSc (Hons), MSc

My technical background is in the Natural Sciences, though my path to quality management was anything but linear. I found my stride in manufacturing, starting with my love of chemistry and microbiology in the world of brewing. I’ve always been drawn to and thrived in the fast paced world of startups where no two days are the same. Being part of the building phase, creating new processes and problem solving allows me to stay in my element, balancing my creative mindset with an analytical and hands on approach.

Previously the Head of Quality at Balter Brewing, I managed the team and sustained quality through 50% compound annual growth over 5 years. There were many challenges and projects but a favourite was my work in optimising fermentations, where I simultaneously improved aroma, reduced tank cycle times and all without adding costs. This adjustment alone was equivalent to an extra 2 million litres a year and helped us meet production targets.

Now with over 12 years across industries and leadership experience, I help growing businesses answer questions like “how do we consistently make a good product?” to “how do we make more?” and “how do we make it more efficiently?”.
